Firstly, I want to welcome and thank all who signed up for my email list. You now have access to my artwork and thoughts before anyone else. Yay!
Now, let’s get to the reason you are here — On May 31st I ended my exhibition at The People’s Place with an Artist Talk that I could not be more proud of. Creating the work is one thing, but to discuss it in full detail is thorough work on its own. To me, being an artist is more than creating pretty pictures. I know that’s up for debate, so let me talk more about myself to explain my point of view. My exhibition, Conflict: Self and the World, is my journey of revolutionizing. With today’s current events — horrible government, tax dollars funding war and genocide, the cost-of-living sky rocketing, etc. — it is impossible to not be affected enough to want to at least say something. Art is a sign of the times. And for the past 31 years of my life, times have been rough both politically and emotionally. As a Queer Black Woman, I am up against many obstacles, and it has taken decades to love myself fully. And that’s what it is about — reclaiming my power from systems formed against me. And i got talk about that in-depth in my Artist Talk. Take a listen to the videos below. Two clips of my hour-long talk. I will post the others in future posts (Sorry, but it’s too big of a file to input here!).

Here are some pictures of the art setup and from the opening reception.

Outside of my current exhibition, I am also working on my next body of work. I am supposed to be on vacation since I just finished something major, but instead, I work (AND I LOVE IT). While CSW speaks about an array of systems– society, upbringing, war, etc.– this body of work will focus mainly on religion and how we interact with God and journey through the afterlife. I have a few paintings underway, and I could not be more excited to really dive in. Through this next project, I have expanded my practice to wood and other natural elements like dried flowers and dirt.

End Note: My next two venues for Conflict: Self and the World will remain in CT at The Guilford Public Free Library in Guilford from July 1-31. Then immediately after from August 1-30, The Silas Bronson Library in Waterbury.
Stay safe everyone and thank you again for subscribing!
